Pedimented portico with an elliptical arch
The entrance to nearly all traditional buildings is a sophisticated piece of design. It makes sense to spend your money where it will be noticed. The details can be simple or complex, depending on your style and budget, however keep in mind that a good entrance design depends greatly on understanding correct proportions and applying those proportions appropriately.
A great example is The Milton Portico Project which dresses up the front of this existing Colonial Style home with a beautiful arched portico thus evoking a strong architectural feeling.
An elliptical arch tapers at the ends to soften the curve and sits upon simple columns with clean lines. The existing steps will be refinished with stone veneer and blue stone treads. Finishing touches include new standing seam aluminum roof, tongue-and-groove mahogany ceiling, a new front entry door, and a perfectly sized pendant light.
"Keri did a fantastic job designing a barrel vaulted portico and front steps for my home. She was easy to work with and extremely helpful throughout the process from narrowing down my vision to choosing stone and lighting. She was able to provide an idea of cost for materials, labor, etc. as well and helped source contractors. She also worked with the contractor that was ultimately chosen to ensure the proportions were being brought to life correctly. I would highly recommend Keri to anyone looking for an architect!"
